Earlier this month, GMN Aerospace Director, Paul Michaels presented at the 2015 Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Annual Expo with Brian McCarthy, Enterprise Lean+/CVQ from the Boeing Company. Michaels’ and McCarthy’s presentation “Partnering for Success: Creating a win-win situation with your company and your suppliers” discussed the success Boeing and GMN Aerospace have had in their partnership.
As competition for Boeing has grown, the need to improve and reduce cost has too. However, 65% of the parts that make up Boeing airplanes are procured from external suppliers. This means that while the company strives to progress efficiencies internally, it also needs its supply chain to improve. Boeing’s Partnering for Success initiative was developed to find a way to lower its suppliers’ prices, while still enabling them to grow financially.
Michaels and McCarthy discussed the program and how it has allowed GMN Aerospace to grow its lean resources and create new efficiencies in its production. The presentation shared outcomes from GMN Aerospace’s second Value Stream Team event, which resulted in an increase in productivity and quality, and a significant reduction in overtime. As a result of the partnership efforts, both GMN Aerospace and The Boeing Company have shared in the success.
The IEE Annual Expo supports the industrial engineering profession and efforts to improve quality and productivity.
