5-WIRE

5-wire analog touch screens operate by decoding or measuring a direct resistive circuit. This is done with six layers: a top polyester flex layer (coated with a thin conductive film), a polyester middle membrane with adhesive on both the top and bottom, a glass layer (coated with a thin conductive film) and an adhesive layer on the front or back for mounting. Printed spacer dots on the glass layer are used for controlling actuation force and to keep the conductive layers from premature contact.

Projected actuation life: 35 million actuations

Activation points determined by drop in voltage sensed by A to D converter

Typical border widths at least .25"

Uses continuous flex tail construction to avoid lumps

No false actuations

4096 x 4096 touch points

No stylus needed - will operate when actuated with gloved finger

Easily adapted to various sizes and display configurations

Able to be sealed to NEMA 4 and IP65 specifications

Easy to clean

Maximum transmissivity of 80%

May require periodic calibration

Subject to mechanical wear, top layer may be scratched or cut

Glass layer may break
