GM Nameplate, a leading manufacturing solutions provider, announced today the relocation of their China division to a larger facility in the southern province of Guangdong, China.
Relocation to the new facility took place from June 26th through July 9th, when normal operations resumed at 8.00AM.
The decision to move to larger facilities was based on sustained success in supporting multinational customers requiring China-based manufacturing solutions, combined with significant increases in development of “local” China-based business.
The China division currently focuses on screen printing, fabrication and light assembly of brand presentation products. The new facility will allow increased capacity for assembly work, expanded screen printing capacity, and the addition of new capabilities including metal nameplate options to support customer needs.
GM Nameplate provides manufacturing, design and prototyping services to the majority of its customers through its U.S. divisions. GM Nameplate divisions in China and Singapore provide manufacturing and assembly services to customers that require “local” Asia-based manufacturing, coupled with design and engineering support provided through the GM Nameplate U.S. divisions.
“Both our China and Singapore plants provide GM Nameplate opportunities we would not be able to pursue without an Asian manufacturing presence,” said Bruce Cleckley, President of GM Nameplate. “With the move to this new factory, GM Nameplate enhances its value as a supplier to both multi-national OEMs and local China-based companies requiring the manufacture of finished components in close proximity to their Asia-based manufacturing facilities.”
GM Nameplate’s Asia-based operations are wholly owned divisions. Ownership of these divisions provides significant advantages over partnership arrangements used by many other U.S. manufacturing companies operating in Asia. Customers are guaranteed any production done in GM Nameplate’s Asia-based facilities is performed with the same consistency and reliability and managed with the same quality systems as in their North American facilities. This ownership of the Asia divisions allow for a seamless knowledge transfer between divisions, providing GM Nameplate customers peace of mind in the security of their intellectual property and the quality of their finished components.
The new China plant includes two new buildings. The main factory consists of three floors with a total of 50,880 square feet of space. The entire 3rd floor is a class 10,000 clean room.
The second building houses a four story, 34,435 square foot dormitory. This new structure contains employee housing and recreation facilities, including basketball and badminton courts. Between the buildings is an 11,000 square foot lot on which GM Nameplate holds an option for additional expansion.
